“We Will Not Be Attending Oppression on My Birthday”

Dear Kirsty,
Please be advised:
“January 16th won’t work because it’s my birthday and we won’t be home.”
And that’s the most elegant way I can say:
I will not be discussing state-manufactured safeguarding on the anniversary of my birth.
We do not celebrate me by submitting to you.
This was not a refusal. It was a redirection.
A reminder that our time is not yours to schedule.
That joy is not a loophole in your calendar.
That dignity is not up for debate.
I chose peace. I chose breath. I chose cake.
You chose a meeting.
And we simply won’t be attending.
